Middle School Activities
Through the Activities Programme, Middle School students are able to try a number of new activities in each of the four activity seasons, which is important in this crucial period of self exploration and personal growth. While many activities are offered as a single season sign-up, some ask students to commit to participation for at least two blocks (half the year), because of the project based nature of the activity. Many of these longer activities challenge students to build leadership and social skills and an understanding of group dynamics as they work together towards a common goal.
As students approach High School and are asked to make subject choices, the ability to experience a wide range of activities allows students to further explore topics or subject areas, in greater detail before committing to courses in the High School academic programme.
The different categories present myriad opportunities in each season, meaning that students are challenged to make decisions and to prioritise their interests, time and energy. Mentors work with students to make sure they are not over-extended and maintain a healthy balance.

Our Values In Action
Learning by doing – is at the heart of a UWCSEA education. Our students know that breadth and depth of understanding and knowledge is achieved not by academic inquiry alone, but by being connected to, and immersed in, the world around them.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging in Activities
As a school our mission is to make education a force for peace and a sustainable future. UWCSEA is committed to being a community where all individuals have a sense of belonging, and where different identities and ways of being are respected and valued.
Gender Inclusion Guidelines for Sports
All UWCSEA students participate in physical activity classes and other sporting activities in a manner consistent with their gender identity, provided there are no significant concerns regarding student safety or equitable competition.
UWC EAST Development Centres

Top 3 Frequently Asked Questions - Middle School Activities
I missed the Activities sign-up window, what should I do now?
Once the sign-up window has closed, the allocation process will begin immediately. During this process, any amendments to the system will have a knock-on effect on other allocations.
Students who have missed Phase 1 of the sign-up will have to wait for allocation to be completed and for the Clearance Phase to be open. Activities with available spots will be shown during the Clearance Phase.
Students who wish to register for an activity after the Clearance Phase or during mid-season should approach the Activities Department for assistance.
I wish to be in both drama production and play a team sport Is that possible?
Drama and sports team runs on different days and therefore it is possible to be involved in both the production and play for the Dragons school team.
Why are sports single season?
There are a number of reasons why we run seasonal sports at UWCSEA East Campus.
Firstly, we have a wide number of Dragons Sports which often require the use of the same facilities. So we can provide opportunities for a wide range of ages (some teams start at 8&U and run all the way through to 19&U) we run our Dragons sports across three seasons.
Secondly, so we can play fixtures against other schools, we need our season dates to match those of schools in both our local league (ACSIS) and other schools across South East Asia (SEASAC).
For our Junior School Dragons teams, we also encourage students to try a range of different sports so that when they reach Middle School, they have a stronger sense of where their sporting passions lie.
For those students who do want to practise the same sport all year round, we have paid Community Activities Programmes for Badminton, Football and Volleyball. Gymnastics and Swimming run all year round as we have full time paid staff and a dedicated facility to run these programmes.
