Junior School (Grades 2 - 5) Dragons Sports School Team
From Grade 2, the ‘full’ Activities programme starts, and students may select a range of individual and team sports scheduled on a seasonal basis.
From Grades 3–5, the programmes become progressively more diverse and demanding as physical development and mastery increase. The year is divided into three nine-week seasons (approx.) with sports scheduled in each.
Pre-season developmental coaching sessions take place on Wednesdays from 3:10–4.30pm. During the next season, many students continue in the same sport making a two-day in-season commitment on Tuesday and Thursday—typically a practice from 3:10–4.30pm on one day and a game against another school from 4.30pm onwards on the other.
The multiple seasons and numerous sports available make it possible for students to participate in as many as 10 sports during the year, or one sport across multiple seasons. We find that the best route for most students at this developmental stage is to participate in pre-season and seasonal sport across the three seasons.
Important Statement About Organisation and Sign Up (Please read)
Students need to enrol via the online Activity Sign-up system. Please refer to our Registration Guide page for step by step instructional guide. There are NO try-outs. Teams will be selected to compete against other schools on a weekly basis but we cannot guarantee that Away games will be on the practice days or that all pupils will be able to play in school matches. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the team will be doing one of three things:
i) practising at home at 3.10–4.20pm,
ii) playing a game away (leave approximately 3.15pm and return at approximately 6.30pm) or
iii) playing a game at home. This will start no earlier that 4.30pm. (“Why so late?” Because other teams need to travel to us and other age-groups in our school need to use the facility.)
The actual schedule will, therefore, be dependent on the fixtures. We will endeavour to have an accurate schedule available in the first week of the season which will be displayed on notice boards and emailed to students and their parents.
