Junior School Activities

Head of Primary School Activities

The four ‘seasons’ each year allows students to try as many new activities as they would like throughout the school year. Myriad opportunities are offered in each category in each season, meaning that students are challenged to make decisions and to prioritise their interests, time and energy.

Teachers and parents work with students to make sure they are not over-extended and maintain a healthy balance. Students are encouraged to discuss their preferences in the Activity programme with their parents and to complete the request sign-up form together.

Activities take place during lunch or after school in fixed time slots, and students who usually take the bus home after school are provided with an ‘activity bus’ to take them home after activities have concluded.

Our Values In Action

Learning by doing – is at the heart of a UWCSEA education. Our students know that breadth and depth of understanding and knowledge is achieved not by academic inquiry alone, but by being connected to, and immersed in, the world around them.

Top 3 Frequently Asked Questions - Junior Activities

How many activities can a Junior Student sign up for?

5 Activities, this includes lunchtime activities and after school activities.

I signed up for my child's activities immediately when the portal opened, why did my child not get the activity?

Activities sign-up is not on a first come first serve basis. It does not matter if you are the first or the last to submit your child's entries. Allocations are done based on a student's priority preference.

When a popular activity is oversubscribed, allocations will be done in the following priority sequence:

Why are sports single season?

There are a number of reasons why we run seasonal sports at UWCSEA East Campus.

Firstly, we have a wide number of Dragons Sports which often require the use of the same facilities. So we can provide opportunities for a wide range of ages (some teams start at 8&U and run all the way through to 19&U) we run our Dragons sports across three seasons.

Secondly, so we can play fixtures against other schools, we need our season dates to match those of schools in both our local league (ACSIS) and other schools across South East Asia (SEASAC).

For our Junior School Dragons teams, we also encourage students to try a range of different sports so that when they reach Middle School, they have a stronger sense of where their sporting passions lie.

For those students who do want to practise the same sport all year round, we have paid Community Activities Programmes for Badminton, Football and Volleyball. Gymnastics and Swimming run all year round as we have full time paid staff and a dedicated facility to run these programmes.
