Learning Objective: Confidently tying figure-of-8 knot for climbing
Duration: 2-6 mins
Equipment:
Thin rope / Shoe Laces
Leg of a chair or table / ring / pole
You may practice the figure 8 loop to be tied around a pole, through a ring or around any object like a leg of a chair or table.
Though here it is tied with a short tag end, it is safe to keep it longer for load bearing applications (at least 6 inches / 15cm).

Here are two video examples that you may follow.
Important things to take note,
1) Focus on tying a proper and correct knot instead of how quick you can do it
2) It may take some time before you're able to get the right length to start making the first "8"
3) In UWCSEA Dover, we practice to have the end of the rope or tail to be at least 6 inches / 15cm. Slightly longer by 2cm is fine but any shorter or longer, you'd need to retie the knot
4) Have fun!
