INTERNATIONAL STUDENT TEACHING
Students who are approved to complete part of their student teaching semester abroad, will have the following modifications to their placement(s).
The first 8 weeks are managed like all other traditional student teachers.
Two formal observations, spread out throughout the 8 weeks.
All sources of evidence are kept updated, including the Professional Growth Plan (PGP). The PGP will need to be written to continue with the same goal during the second placement.
The EDU 489 or SMED 489 teacher work sample should be completed during this first 8 week period.
Mid-term or Final evaluation and disposition will be completed based on progress of the first 8 weeks.
The second 8 week placement will actually only be approximately 4 weeks. It will be fast paced so student teachers, mentor teachers, and supervisors should plan accordingly.
The student teacher still needs to have two formal observations. it is suggested that these happen in week 2 and week 4 of the shortened placement.
The student teacher will still complete a solo week, even though it is shortened to 4 weeks. This may be the final (4th) week of their student teaching placement.
The student teacher will keep the Sources of Evidence updated until the end of the 4 weeks.
The Professional Growth Plan will continue, but a new goal will not needed to be created. Only one activity for the original PGP goal will need to be completed during this 4 weeks. The student teacher will complete the final self reflection prior to the final evaluation.
The Final evaluation and disposition will be completed based on progress for these 4 weeks.
*For those student teachers who only have one single placement, the supervisor, mentor teacher, and student teacher may spread out the observations throughout the 12 weeks, more evenly, if needed.
The student teacher will receive a separate grade for the International Student Teaching credit. This is a pass/fail grade that will be based on completing the Travel Google Site and the disposition rating from the host country's mentor teachers.
