The student teaching semester is a capstone experience in all teacher preparation programs at Western Kentucky University (WKU). As the student teaching experience is the semester bridging the WKU undergraduate experience to the first year of teaching, our approach is grounded in a developmental view of teaching, recognizing that the complex, demanding work of the profession is mastered over the course of several years of study, consultation, and reflective practice. The student teacher will spend this semester learning how to demonstrate performance on the components of the Kentucky Framework for Teaching. The purpose is to support beginning teachers in their development and to focus this support through a process that aligns with the KY Framework.
