Title: Gratitude

Goal Statement: Students will gain a better understanding of the importance of gratitude.

ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Standard (s): B-SS 3. Create relationships with adults that support success B-SS 9. Demonstrate social maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation and environment B-SS 1. Use effective oral and written communication skills and listening skills

Materials:

    • Gratitude Cards (in your mailbox)

    • Writing Utensil

    • You Tube Video Clips (below)

Procedures:

1. Have students share aloud what they think of when they hear the word gratitude.

2. Show You Tube Video clip: Kid Presidents 25 Reasons to be Thankful! (3:46)

3. Encourage students to write a note of appreciation/gratitude to someone important in their life. They may deliver these on their own or if teachers want to turn into the counselor, we can deliver them as well. Please review to be sure they are appropriate.

4. While writing or after students complete their note(s), show the You Tube Video clips: Pracitce Gratitude (2:44) and Gratitude is Good for You (1:30).

Discussion Questions:

1. How does it feel when someone expresses gratitude to you?

2. What other ways might you be able to show (or have you shown) gratitude to others in your life?

3. Who else can you thank today?

4. What's something small you can you thank your parents for tonight. A sibling? A friend?
