Students will complete their Iowa Conditions for Learning Survey on their Laptops.
Reinforce that the Survey is confidential and an opportunity for their voice to be heard.
Please be positive about the importance of the Survey and how it will help the school to better support learning for all students. Teacher attitudes can affect how seriously students take the Survey.
Remind students that they may opt to not take the Survey anytime during the process, without any penalty and that no Survey question is required to be answered.
State ID numbers/Access Code sent through e-mail - find teacher's name tabbed at bottom of link.

Conditions for Learning Survey
Grade 11
Title: Interviewing/Securing a Job
Goal Statement: Students will discuss important skills that are often overlooked with job-seeking/interviewing.
ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Standard (s): M 6. Positive attitude toward work and learning. B-LS 5. Apply media and technology skills. B-SMS 10. Demonstrate ability to manage transitions and ability to adapt to changing situations and responsibilities. B-SS 1. Use effective oral and written communication skills and listening skills.
Procedures:
Lead a quick discussion with students asking the following questions:
What are some good ways to find job leads? (through contacts/people you know ,on-line, stop in to places and ask)
After applying, what is a good next step if you haven't heard anything? (reach out by phone or e-mail)
Why might an employer have trouble reaching you? (a BIG one could be you don't have voicemail set up - they may not e-mail you, depending on the business/stores/etc.)
2. What are some other reasons it makes sense to set up your voicemail now that you are getting older/looking for work? (many employers don't text work-related information, doctor's offices will not text, is professional courtesy, etc.)
3. Encourage students to set up voicemail. Many people have lost opportunities because they've missed calls.
4. Watch video below.
