Using the Gradebook as a Communication Tool

• Grade Comment Codes

  • NTI= Not Turned In

    • This counts as a zero when calculating the student's grade

  • ABS= Absent

    • Student was absent when the assignment was assigned or turned in

    • This counts as a zero when calculating the student's grade

  • EXC= Excused

    • The teacher has excused the assignment and the student is not expected to turn in the assignment.

    • This does not count when calculating the student's grade

  • IP= In Progress

    • The student has turned in the assignment and the teacher is in the process of grading it.

    • Tip: Use this code when a student has turned in a missing assignment that was previously NTI or ABS

**Make sure comment codes are turned on in the gradebook so the students and parents can see them!

• Comments within an Assignment

  • When you click on an assignment within Synergy, you can select scores and add additional comments that will appear when you mail home progress reports

  • These comments give parents additional information behind the score and can also be used as a record log for you if you change grades
