What:
GCPS utilized Digital Learning Days on teacher work days. It is recommended that students engage with independent work on their own time (asynchronous learning) to complete assignments. Please keep in mind that some students may have other responsibilities on the DLD, such as taking care of younger siblings. It is best practice to not have assignments due by the end of the regular school day for DLDs.
Why:
Don't lose a day of instruction! Make sure what you are assigning has value and pushes student learning forward.
How:
Give clear instructions: Ensure students know where to find their assignment, what needs to be done for the assignment, and when it is due. It is a good idea to go over it the day before the DLD. It is also important to list how students can get help or ask questions during the day.
Keep your assignment around 45 minutes: Limiting e-learning assignments to 45 minutes helps keep students focused and prevents cognitive overload. This duration also supports better learning outcomes by allowing time for transitions and breaks between tasks.
Ideas: Here are some ideas you can utilize for the DLD
