Goal: Create an original surrealistic/otherworldly artwork by fabricating imagery using the computer while applying lighting effects, enhancing techniques, and manipulating pictures that you take.
Process:
1. Imagine... How would the world look if-
These ideas are just here to get you thinking. USE. YOUR. IMAGINATION! Begin by brainstorming in your sketchbook. Write down or sketch any and all ideas that you generate for your surrealistic/otherworldly "what if" ideas, nothing is silly at this stage in the process.
2. Select your final subject matter from your brainstorming. Make a list of all objects, people, and scenes that you will need to photograph. Make quick thumbnail sketches of what you want these photographs to look like. By doing so, you will have a good idea of how to arrange your subject(s) or scenes and what angle to take your pictures from.
3. Take many high quality photographs. Be mindful that you will be addressing the foreground, middle ground, and background within your composition. Does it make more sense to arrange and photograph your objects/people on location on in a specific setting? Will this help support your background information? Think about where you want your main light source in your composition. Keep this light angle in mind as you take pictures. The more consistent your light angles and shadows, the better. It will save you time when working on the computer.
4. Make a more refined sketch of your design in your sketchbook. Keep in mind the focus for this project: Emphasis, Contrast, Proportion, Scale, Figure/ground relationship
5. Create your document in Adobe Photoshop with the following parameters. (We may be able to vary this size depending on the paper we have to print on. Check with me prior to setting up your document.)
13"X19" or 19"X13"
300 pixels/inch
Color mode: CMYK
6. Import your photographs.
