Goal: Create a logo design for a hypothetical company that shows it's evolution throughout time.
Process:
1. As a company grows and changes over time, it will find that it needs to update its graphic elements to stay relevant to the ever changing taste of its target audiences. A company needs to keep up with technology, specialized products, and trends. When examining history you will see that what people found appealing in one decade may not have the same allure in the next. Brands are constantly reevaluated to stay current.
2. Create a fictitious company that specializes in a certain product or service. What will be the company's name? What will be their slogan? (The slogan may also change and appear in some of the designs.)
3. In your sketchbook: -Create 10 thumbnail sketches of different designs for your company's logo. These designs should be contemporary.
-Get feedback from at least 3 people. Ask if your designs clearly depict or matches the feel for your company's product or service.
-Pick your favorite 3 designs and create a rough sketch with color for each one. Seek more feedback from others.
-Choose your final logo design.
4. Pick 8-10 different times throughout history (including present time) to show the evolution of your design. Your company has been around for a long time so start in the late 1800's. For example- 1870's, 1900's, 1930's, 1950's, 1960's, 1980's, 1990's, early 2000's, and current.
5. Research the style of your chosen time periods. You must now alter your contemporary logo to match the style of the time periods. Keep in mind that the late 1800's design should be much different than the contemporary logo. Check out the cool illustration about the history of graphic design styles below.
6. In the end you will have 8-10 logos for the same company. Now think about how you'll present them all together on one document. Be creative!
