As discussed in Module 1, multiview drawings (orthographic projections) are created with several, two-dimensional views of the same object to communicate the precise shape and size of the object from the designer to the manufacturer. This system is the basis for industrial drawings and commonly used for machines, machine parts, and architectural drawings.

Each view drawn (typically the front, right side, and top) has the purpose of clearly showing the size and position of all features of the design.
Recall that dimensions are not repeated. For example, if the overall height and width is shown in the front view as in the picture to the left then it would not be labeled in the other views.
