The line command was covered in the previous lesson so it should be familiar already.
1) Activate the line command by selecting the Line button OR by typing in "line" and hitting enter
2) Specify first point
3) Specify next point
After a line is drawn, the command will remain active and will ask to specify next point to continue drawing connected lines.
To end a command, push the ESC key on the keyboard. Note: There are multiple methods to complete the same task in AutoCAD. This course will teach the most efficient. For example, to end a command, another method is right clicking and then selecting the Enter option.
Works in a similar manner as the line command, except it creates one object with all the lines (or curves) grouped together.
1) Activate the polyline command by selecting the Polyline button OR by typing in "polyline" and hitting enter
2) Specify first point
3) Specify next point if drawing lines (most common); otherwise select arc
To ungroup a polyline object:
1) Select the polyline
2) Activate the explode command by selecting the Explode button OR by typing in "explode" and hitting enter
This will disconnect each line/curve into individual pieces
To group separate objects into a polyline:
1) Select the objects
2) Type "join"
3) Hit enter
This will combine the selected lines/curves into one polyline object
Start a new drawing and create the design to the right twice. First draw it using the line tool. Next draw it 10 units to the right of your first drawing using the polyline tool. Finally, explode the polyline so that both objects are the same.
