Retake Candidate

The NBCT process is a unique journey that sometimes requires candidates to revisit a component and/or reflective practices. 

Celebrate all that you've learned and then get ready for your next best steps!

Need a retake after receiving your NBCT results?  

Complete the steps below to ensure you feel prepared and confident as you take the next step in your journey. 

1. Understand your status. 

1. • Certification in Progress  You have not yet completed all four components.

   • Not Yet Achieved  You have attempted all four components, but not yet met the three score requirements. You have the opportunity to proceed with a retake.

   • Did Not Achieve Certification  You have attempted all four components, but not yet met the three score requirements. You have used retake attempts for one or more components and/or are in your fifth year of candidacy.

1. Read and understand your report.  Look at recent information shared by NBPTS.org including  Understanding Your Score Report.

3. Review your retake options and considerations.

   • Know your deadlines and timelines. Retake Fee Support requires a Retake MOU and new fee request submitted during our application window. 

     1.  The SY 26 fee incentive application is closed. Candidates who wish to retake during SY 26 and did not apply for fee support must pay out of pocket for their retake following the NPBTS.org calendar timeline/deadlines.   

     2. Pending approval, our fee incentive support application for SY 27 will be available:  April 1- July 1, 2026.

     3.  Information will be posted in the Employee News Bulletin and Schoology for Fee Support. 

        • Cost  Reminder: FCPS/MSDE will cover the cost of ONE retake.
