What is a Micro-Credential?

A micro-credential system provides educators the opportunity to gain recognition for professional skills they develop throughout their careers. It focuses on competencies and empowering educators to engage with their content and guide their own learning opportunities by choosing the time, place, path, pace, and application of the micro-credentials. Micro-credentials contribute to an educational system that values the continuous development of professional skills and ongoing commitment to increase student achievement throughout an educator's career. 

What is a Digital Badge?

A digital badge is a visual validation for earning the micro-credential.

Benefits of Earning an FCPS-Recognized Micro-Credential

The micro-credentialing experience is

• • aligned with FCPS systemic initiatives,

  • recognized by FCPS Human Resources,

  • documented within the "Professional Accomplishments" section of the Human Resources record,

  • universal across our school system,

  • used as a resume-builder and may be a preferred qualification within a job description, and

  • enhanced educator effectiveness.

All FCPS micro-credentialing experiences must be initiated centrally and have necessary approval.
