Vocal Music

Vocal & Choral Music

Program Overview

The SCAPA Voice department consists of approximately fifty vocal majors each year. This program runs in conjunction with the choir program at Lafayette High School. There are six choirs at Lafayette, three of which are SCAPA courses. SCAPA students sing alongside Lafayette students in these ensembles and receive individual and small group coaching sessions on a regular basis. There are numerous performance opportunities including recitals, solo & ensemble festival, musical theatre, community engagements, and more!

Curriculum

Voice majors first and foremost study healthy vocal technique: posture, breath, tone production, etc. Students perform a wide variety of styles and genres throughout their four years in the Lafayette SCAPA program. Students sing everything from traditional English and Italian art song to German lieder and musical theatre. Depending on the students’ preferences and future goals, repertoire is tailored to meet those needs. Instructors at SCAPA work in conjunction with private teachers of voice majors to maintain consistency and rigor. Students participate in master classes with world-renowned singers and teachers and many audition for musical theatre productions both at school and in the community. Students also participate in competitions at the local, state, regional and national levels.

Outcomes

SCAPA voice students go on to study at some of the most prestigious universities and conservatories across the nation. Recent graduates are pursuing degrees at CCM, IU, NYU, Elon, UofL and UK, to name a few. Collegiate instructors actively seek students from SCAPA Lafayette when recruiting. Millions of dollars in scholarships are offered to SCAPA students each year.
