Out of hundreds of applications nationwide, 40 finalists from 16 states were selected to participate in this year's Songbook Academy summer intensive, an acclaimed preprofessional music program for young singers focusing on the timeless standards of jazz, pop, Broadway and Hollywood. Abigayle was selected as one of eight finalists to perform throughout the week.

Arts at Governor's Scholars Program

Mina H. (Art) spent five weeks at the Governor's Scholar Program where she majored in Dramatic Expressions writing and directing a play, staring in a play, and producing a friend's play. She performed in 4 out of the 5 showcases and ran lighting for another. (A skills she learned from being a part of the shows at SCAPA throughout middle school.) Additionally, Mina performed two violin concertos, a violin/piano duet of a video game score, and a dramatic performance of You'll Be Back from Hamilton. She also finished 3 pieces for her senior art portfolio over the summer.

Summer Musical Theatre Experiences

From Colin C: (Voice) I attended the Berklee College of Music Summer Session: Musical Theatre Workshop to build my triple threat skills for the college application process. I was a featured soloist in the Villains ensemble, singing as Frollo. It was cool working with Berklee instructors and getting feedback from industry professionals. Overall, it was an incredible learning experience.

I played Troy in InnOVATION Arts Academy's High School Musical Jr, their summer Musical Theatre workshop production.  It kept my skills sharp!

Governor's School for the Arts

Each year, Lafayette SCAPA sends dozens of students to participate in the life-changing experience that is Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts

From Nikayla R: (Art) I saw how artists create their art and how creative they were. Everyone had different perspectives on art, yet we were all alike on how it influences society and is needed in this world. It's interesting to see Kentucky grow into a community full of talented artists among the different art forms.

From Gus R: (Voice) GSA was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned an insane amount about my art form and learned very specific things that mean a lot as a vocal major and as someone who wants to do something with music after college and as a full-time job. I met really good friends and connected with everyone, you never feel left out, and you should never feel nervous or embarrassed about your art because everyone there is an artist, you are surrounded by people who also create and fail at creating a specific project or task they have their mind set on. something I really learned is that if people have recognized that you have talent, you have talent and you have no reason to be nervous while performing or creating in front of an audience.

From Tate W: (Dance/Theatre) This summer I was part of the Governor's School for the Arts program.  I stayed on UK's campus for 3 weeks and studied dance every day. It was an amazing opportunity.

Congratulations! Lafayette Student Ensembles. Performing at KMEA Conference February 8, 2024.

Congratulations to Band, Choir, & Orchestra

Congratulations to the Lafayette Wind Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, and Madrigal Singers who have all been invited to be featured performers for the 2024 Kentucky Music Educators Conference in Louisville in February. An invitation to perform for a state’s music education professional conference is one of the highest honors a scholastic ensemble can receive. The groups were selected by anonymous adjudication of submitted recordings. Outstanding performances by ensembles from previous years made these invitations possible. The groups last performed for KMEA Conference in 2020. Congratulations to the students and directors for this outstanding recognition.
