Band

Program Overview

The Lafayette High School Band is a comprehensive program that encompasses marching, concert, jazz, percussion, and color guard ensembles. The season opens with band camp in July and includes rehearsals, performances, and competitions from August through early November. Concert Bands and Jazz Band perform from December through May and members regularly participate in KMEA festivals, solos and ensembles, and all-state bands. The marching band, concert bands, and jazz band all appear at school and community functions throughout the year.

Curriculum

The Lafayette Band Program focuses on developing musicianship through a comprehensive music education program. We provide regular small group and individualized instruction, from the directors and highly skilled staff. The Lafayette Band Program offers performance opportunities with three levels of concert band, two levels of jazz band, percussion class, as well as chamber music. Sectional classes are partnered with our large ensembles to further develop students’ musical skills.

Outcomes

Band majors have rigorous performance and rehearsal expectations. They develop the skills necessary to be successful in both music and non-music fields. Graduates from SCAPA Lafayette have developed the musicianship necessary to be admitted into highly regarded collegiate or conservatory programs around the country. Core skills learned in our program (time management, goal setting, problem-solving, collaboration, and many more) can be applied in any college and career setting students choose.
