SCAPA LHS Online Information Session, Tue, Oct 21, 6PM
Program Overview
SCAPA Lafayette Theatre is committed to inspiring an inclusive community that challenges students to be the creative leaders of tomorrow through the creation of collaborative, innovative and meaningful theatre. We produce three plays, two main stage musicals, a 24-hour play project and multiple class and student-produced projects every year.
Performance Curriculum
Our four-year performance curriculum is designed to grow students as performers and artists by helping students become creative, dynamic, and versatile performers. Classes focus on the development of ensemble, voice and physicality for the actor, improvisation, scene work, audition and resume preparation, exploring theatre theorists to develop a personal approach to performance, directing, devising, playwriting, and creating/performing fully-produced class plays.
Technical Theatre Curriculum
Our four-year curriculum is designed to grow students as theatre technicians and artists. The first year students take Introduction to Technical Theatre and learn about safety, the theatre space, tools, hardware, paint, props, sewing, and design. This introductory class allows students to take on more in the department via main stage shows and classes. When students move to the advanced technical theatre classes we move to a project-based structure that allows students to choose projects based on their individual interests and artistry. Students in this advanced class work on productions and hold leadership roles in collaboration with peers to accomplish the work of the department. Students will have opportunities to further explore and specialize by taking additional complimentary classes including visual art, digital media, traditional theatre, architecture, and more.
Outcomes
Both Theatre and Technical Theatre majors have rigorous performance, technical, and rehearsal expectations. They develop the skills necessary to be successful in both theatre and non-theatre fields. Graduates from SCAPA Lafayette have developed the artistry necessary to be admitted into highly regarded collegiate or conservatory programs around the country. Collegiate instructors actively seek students from SCAPA Lafayette when recruiting. Core skills learned in the program including time management, goal-setting, problem-solving, collaboration, and more, can be applied in any college or career setting. Theatre graduates receive generous scholarships annually.
