Auditions for 2024-25

Auditions for the 202425 School Year

Updated December 4, 2024

The Process

SCAPA Lafayette is a Gifted and Talented program serving high school students identified as gifted in one of ten arts areas. In Fall 2023, SCAPA Lafayette and the FCPS Gifted and Talented department reviewed and revised the entire audition process including audition requirements and rubrics in order to merge what were previously two distinct processes.

In January 2024, the SCAPA audition process and the district-wide Gifted and Talented arts identification process will merge. For the 202425 school year, SCAPA students will be recommended for placement through the same audition process as district-wide Gifted and Talented arts auditions. Students will apply and record and submit their audition in January for possible placement for the following school year.

Applications

Students wishing to be considered for a placement at SCAPA Lafayette must first complete the district’s Special Programs Application on SchoolMint open in January.

Applicants may also include, as additional evidence for GT identification, one or more positive recommendations from an arts teacher/professional who knows you as an artist. Reference contacts will be submitted and sent through SchoolMint.

Auditions

Gifted and Talented Visual and Performing Arts including auditions for SCAPA Lafayette are recorded and submitted through every middle and high school in the district throughout January and scored by a panel of arts educators from across the district. Your GT specialist or arts teacher at your FCPS school will help you prepare & submit your application and audition.

Non-FCPS students will attend an audition date on a weekday to record prepared and on-demand activities for submission.

Requirements & Rubrics

Each arts discipline has specific audition requirements. Each audition has a prepared component, on-demand component, and brief standardized interview. Please review the audition requirements carefully and work with your GT Specialist or arts teacher at your school to begin to prepare now.

GT Resources

Each middle and high school has a Gifted and Talented teacher assigned to the school. If you have questions about the actual audition and recording process, please contact this GT teacher first. If you have other questions about SCAPA specifically, contact Mr. Marsh at Lafayette. If you are not a FCPS student, contact Mr. Marsh.
