Goldman Fristoe Test of Articulation - 3rd Addition
Ronald Goldman and Macalyne Fristoe 2015
Description:
The GFTA-3 is a revised version of the GFTA-2 published in 2000. It is an individually administered standardized assessment that measures speech sound abilities of articulation in children through young adults.
The GFTA-3 includes opportunities to produce 23 consonants and 16 consonant clusters in all positions of the word, appropriate picture stimuli for all ages, standard scores for speech sound abilities and the ability to compare and individuals current level to what is expected of others their age and gender
Helps to determine if an individual has a SSD, assess their production of consonant and consonant clusters, assesses production of /r/ and vowel sounds, compares single words and connected speech, rates intelligibility, determines eligibility for services and helps to develop appropriate treatment/ monitor production
Age Range: 2:0 - 21:11
Administration Time: Untimed assessment - Sounds-in-Words can be done in approximately 12 minutes, and Sounds-in-Sentences can be completed in approximately 4 minutes, however these times can vary based on the age of your client. Young children take longer to administer than do adults.
Sounds in Words
2:0-21:11
Made up of 47 colored picture stimuli with 60 target words. Targets 23 consonants in all positions of the word and 17 consonant blends, 15 in the initial position, 1 in the medial position and 1 in the final position.
The client is presented with picture stimuli that is appropriate for their age range (cartoon like images for 2:0-6:11 and realistic images for 7:0-21:11) and their norm-referenced scores are used to compare their current level to what is considered ‘normal’ for their age and sex.
Sounds in Sentences
4:0-21:11
Measures production of speech sounds in connected speech
Includes two stories: Story one - “What Animal Do You Think It Is?” for younger population that includes cartoon like images targeting 43 target words to elicit the production of 21 consonants and 9 consonant clusters in all positions of the words. As well as Story two - “A Terrible Day” which is performed in the same manner but contains material geared toward the older clients.
Normative Information: The normative information of the GFTA-3 reflects changes in the population of the US according to the 2013 consensus
