CAAP-2
Clinical Assessment of Articulation and Phonology, 2nd edition
Wayne A Secord, Ph.D., CCC-SLP & JoAnn S. Donohue, M.A., CCC-SLP, 2013
Description:
The CAAP-2 assesses both articulation and phonology in preschool children and school-aged children. The CAAP-2 looks at two different variables, articulation inventory and phonology processes. The articulation portion of this assessment looks at consonant inventory and school age sentences (if necessary) to measure competence of articulation. The phonology portion is divided into two checklists to determine the occurrence of phonological processes
The CAAP-2 was developed for reasons:
1) “Quickly inventory the articulation abilities in young children”
2) Derive a measure of overall articulation competence”
3) “Compare word and sentence-level competence for school age children”
Age Range: 2:6 to 11:11
Administration Time:
Articulation Inventory = 15-20 minutes
Phonological Process Probes = 20 minutes
Articulation Subtest:
Consonant Inventory
This portion of the test is given to assess the production of 27 words, 24 CVC, 1 CV, 1 CVV, and 1 CVCV
There are a few cluster words and multisyllabic words embedded in this portion of the test to assess sound accuracy in more complex words.
School-Age Sentences
This is targeted only toward children who are 5 years and older. This subtests allows examiners to gain a better understanding of the child’s articulation carried over to the sentence level.
Phonological Process evaluation subtest includes:
Phonological Process Checklists I & 11, are used to assess the percentage of an occurrence in different phonological processes such as:
Syllable Structures:
Cluster Reduction
Syllable Reduction
Final Consonant Deletion
Substitution:
Gliding
Vowelization
Fronting
Deaffrication
Stopping
Normative Information: Normed on 1,707 children between 2:6 and 8:11 from from 35 states in the U.S and four Canadian Provinces
