The FSD works with the Farmington Emergency Manager and other outside agencies to monitor the risk of severe weather.
Steps are taken before Severe Weather Warnings to ensure Staff and Students can get into designated shelter areas of each building.
Upon arrival to shelter areas, staff will monitor students for emotional stress as well as the need for any movement for overcrowding purposes.
If alerted by a Severe Weather Warning and imminent danger from the storm is present, staff will instruct students to assume a "cover" position to maximize the protection of the head and vital organs.
Following a "strike," staff will assess building damage and need to evacuate the shelter area or building altogether.
When given an alert or instructions, will utilize appropriate steps to:
Follow the instructions of the staff member they are under the care of,
Will remain vigilant and quiet so they are able to follow any further instructions given by staff.
Warning all staff will take shelter. Therefore families will not be able to check students out. Any non-student or faculty will be asked to take shelter in the event they are in a building when a warning begins.
Families will:
Not start receiving information until the initial threat has subsided and there is no longer an immediate threat.
Will more than likely start receiving texts—calls, or information via social media from sources other than the FSD.
Refrain from traveling to the affected school to avoid causing a delay in the FSD's ability to respond, thus potentially causing unnecessary harm or confusion for the FSD and Emergency Responders.
Please keep cell phone use to a minimum with students.
Monitor your phone, Social Media, and Media Outlets for information or instructions on the emergency and how families should respond.
