If an alert is given or staff determines there is potential for imminent building damage they will instruct students to:
Drop to the floor (preferably under a desk or table), Cover their heads, and Hold on to something stable.
When the imminent threat of building damage subsides staff will assess their classroom/area and determine the need for a change in response, i.e., an evacuation for building damage.
Staff will be attentive for aftershocks following an earthquake, and observant of potential hazards if it becomes necessary to evacuate for building damage.
When given an alert by staff or circumstances dictate, students will understand the threat of imminent building damage and drop to a cover position to mitigate harm from a potential earthquake or other sudden natural disaster.
Students will listen for further instructions from staff.
Students will be prepared for aftershocks if responding to an earthquake.
Because this response would most likely be utilized for natural disasters such as an earthquake, it is likely the FSD would have multiple buildings affected if the Drop, Cover, Hold response were necessary.
Furthermore, it is likely community damage would be widespread. These types of events would likely overwhelm local resources.
The FSD would have plans in place to be able to care for staff and students for an extended period of time if the need were to arise.
Families need to understand communication would likely be difficult. Students will be cared for until the FSD is able to Reunify students with their parents.
