Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am incredibly excited to be part of Perry L. Drew School community! I want to start the year out by saying that it is an honor to work with both you and your family. In order for all of us to have great year, I wanted to introduce myself and explain to you a vision for our school year.

I am a strong believer in the "Growth Mindset." In our classroom, we value the power of the word "yet." As we come across challenges on our educational journey, we respect the time and effort it takes for each of us to learn and grow. We celebrate our accomplishments and we persevere.

Establishing a community of respectful learners will help us have a successful school year. Respecting each other for both our similarities and differences is important. In order to do so, I encourage my students to bring their experiences and knowledge into the classroom.

I also foster creativity and inquiry. I encourage all students to ask questions, research, and explore our world. A critical component of 21st century learning is to be able to think critically. Encourage your child to ask questions and make connections. Curiosity fosters research, discovery, and lifelong learning.

I like the motto, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Teachers and parents are a team. I am sure that open communication between us will flourish, from now until the end of the school year. Throughout the school year I will be available to discuss any concerns or valuable information you may want to share with me. My contact information is shared here on my webpage.   My Google Classroom will also be a valuable source of information regarding classroom happenings. Please check our Google Classroom regulary. I am looking forward to working with both you and your child this year!

Sincerely,

Liz Volyand
