Welcome to Orchestra!
My name is Erika Rojas Requena and I am the 4th and 5th grade strings teacher at Perry L. Drew Elementary School. This is my fifth year teaching in the district and I'm excited to be a part of the wonderful music program at EWRSD.
I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Music Education from William Paterson University, studying violin as part of my degree.
Besides taking great joy in teaching and being an educator, I like to spend my free time taking as many trips as possible with my family. We also love watching NY Rangers games together!
Course Goals & Expectations
The goal of this course is to give students the essential tools to begin their journey as young musicians. We will cover the basics of their chosen string instrument, such as note and rhythm reading, maintaining proper posture, and performance strategies that will help them become strong and confidant players.
Students are expected to bring their instrument, music folder with their method book, and a pencil to all their classes. They should aim to practice 3-4 times a week for 15-20 minutes.
All weekly lessons and morning rehearsals are in preparation for our Winter and Spring Concerts. More information on those will be shared the closer we get to those dates.

Lesson Schedules
Once finalized, the weekly lesson schedule can be found posted on the Google Classroom one. If students miss a lesson they are expected to make up the lesson during of the designated make up lesson slots.

5th Grade Orchestra (with band and chorus) - Thursday May 14th, 6:00pm at Hightstown High School Auditorium
4th Grade Orchestra (with band and chorus) - Thursday June 4th, 6:00pm at Hightstown High School Auditorium
