Exemplary Student Work
Art Student of the Month
This month’s art club student featured is freshman, Caleb Williams. Caleb joined the art club for the sole purpose of having fun. Caleb also creates art in his free time excluded from the club. The picture shown on the left is his own created piece. He calls this piece “The Moon and the Ocean Spirit”. Caleb stated, “...As the fish swim they are pushing and pulling the water, just like the tides push and pull...”
Every month a student will by chosen as the art student of the month! Exemplary art and the artist will be shown on the revive website right here, along with a small blurb written by the editor (me) or the artist themself! If you want to be featured here talk to Ms. Loman, Mr. Simmons, or me (Lillian Maroun; send to 22lillian.maroun@ep309.org) and you might be chosen to be the next EP Featured Artist! Thanks!
New This Month: "Tiara of Sonnets"
Ms. Pfeifer's sophomores worked tirelessly after reading Patricia Smith's "Motown Crown." This crown of sonnets consisted of 14 original sonnets with the last line becoming the first line of the next sonnet. The 15th sonnet consists of the first lines of the previous 14 sonnets' lines. Patricia Smith captures growing up in the era of Motown music and the nostalgia that can come from taking a retrospective look at the way your life panned out compared to the ways in which our music shapes how we feel our lives should be.
The sophomores were asked to capture moods, vibes, and events of their lives through the music that has been the soundtrack of their childhood and young adult lives while sticking to a theme, or take-away. They only had to create 7 original sonnets, so their 8th stanza will be 7 lines long instead of an additional sonnet, but this was no easy task. These kids stepped up to capture their lives thus far, and Ms. Pfeifer was pretty blown away by their finished products. Enjoy!!!
"Oh, So Long Ago"
Joe Kelly, Mario Munez, Aaron Marble, & Peyton Hockenbury
Modern Pop,
Fed Like Slop,
Injected into our ears.
When Cardi is king,
And No one can sing,
Where else is there to fear.
When everyone thinks,
they can make it
But most don't have the chops.
They still get made,
although they'll fade
It could've been someone with heart.
The music heads want what can sell,
And what can be sold, is slop.
"Is it all in my head?"
Their eyes, seeming to cut through my deep rooted apprehension
Making my mind do circles wondering and worrying
That I was their source of light-hearted hilarity
I spent my days wandering in my own consciousness
Spending hours going back and forth
Pondering on what I could of done
To be the victim of their staring eyes.
Thinking back and forth if it was all in my head
That maybe I was lying to myself and making it all up
That perhaps nothing was wrong, maybe I was crazy.
I walked through the crowded halls with my head down
Yet I was paralyzed with fear from the chance
That they were in fact looking at me, or
I wondered if it was my imagination playing tricks with my head.
Impossible Goals
Living up to impossible goals set before you
Every parent does it
But it’s never enough for them
They will always push you to be what THEY want you to be
But this is not the life for you
You want to go your own way
They just won’t allow it
You live in impossible shoes to fill
Always pestering you, parents are
Never allowing you any breathing room
Forever breathing down your neck to “succeed”
“Success” in their eyes is to be a carbon copy of them
You just aren’t cut out for this road that has been laid out for you
These “goals” have been set with THEIR best interest at heart

How did you think you’re alone when I was right there everyday?
“You will hide from everyone, denying you need someone to exterminate your bones.”
I wanted to save you.
I never thought you would abuse the power I gave you.
“Would you let me know your plans tonight?”
Were you being honest when you looked me in the eyes and cried?
“Cause I just won’t let go until we both see the light.”
I won't leave, just in case.
If what you say is true, they were right to walk away.
I don't blame them because you stole a piece of me.
“I know you want to leave but please don’t take your life away from me.”
I begged you to let me help.
That was my mistake.
It's like I’ve turned into Johnny Boy.
"Growing Up"
Nathan, Seth, Blake, Elaina, Jett
When we were younger there was more to learn
Education had just begun but it was less learning and more fun
Oh for recess how much we would yearn
Playing outside scorched by the bright sun
With so many games to play and things to do
School became the joy to fuel our entire day
From running the playground as if we were two
To the classroom where we had so much to say
Whether it be going down the slide
Or building intelligence from 1+1
School was still fun even from the inside
School is fun for everyone
At the end of the year feeling smart as can be
Next year you’ll learn more just wait and see
Nostalgic Symphony
All of the songs from our past,
from that time that we grew up,
There’s Eminem
saying to lose yourself
to the music
And while you do for a little bit
the music pauses,
Then reality,
It hits like bricks.
Hurts worse than sticks
And you crave another hit.
We were taught there was violence
Especially when someone looked at you weird
We were told to slow down.
"The Role of a Musical"
Cole Strickler
Prancing cats, wearing a top hat,
Stunning felines getting ready for the ball,
Flabby feline that ate it all,
Dancing mice, don't think twice,
A magical cat, a mangy outcast cat,
Singing about memories at a lamp pole,
I can smile at the old days.
I was beautiful then,
When the dawn comes,
Tonight will be a memory too,
Who will get a second chance?
Tonight the cats will all sing and dance.
Except for one who no longer fits in.
Thrown away, the pain of rejection.
“A Young Life”
Gracie Luna, Emily Waller, Erica Edgington, Kaylynn Crotz
The Monday nights filled with laughs and love
Wednesday mornings we liked above
All , sports and all they supported
Because they were so bighearted
With some late night talks
And early morning walks
The appreciation of the Seynemeiers,
Even years later will never expire
Through covid and all they showed up
The Seynemeirers really know wassup
Playing many board games
Making things go to flames
They opened their house happily
Younglife is truly like a family
