Revive Poker Chips

What It Is

I’m sure most students have probably noticed the four painted lockers in the first floor D-hallway. These lockers are painted and labeled as different places in East Peoria. The purpose for these lockers is if you receive a poker chip from a teacher, you can write your name on it and put it in one of the lockers to enter into a drawing to win a gift card from that place.

How You Get Entered

Teachers are the ones who hand out the poker chips you enter into the lockers. Teachers can hand these out to students as an award for doing something good.

"We Are EP" Flag Signing

Inside The Tribe: the student-led newscast of East Peoria Community High School. It is our high school’s unique and innovative way of showing our Raider Pride. To go with this, there is a new edition to celebrate school pride at East Peoria called the “We Are EP” flag. Every month we recognize a new group of EPCHS that contributes to not only our school but also our community. The selected group gets to sign a gold flag for us to acknowledge all of their work. As we honor Inside The Tribe this month for keeping updated and in the loop, there is a lot more to the show than we realize.

EP Revive Hub

Being a part of the ITT newscast is not a simple process. You cannot just walk into Ms. Dawson’s classroom and declare that you want to be an anchor or interviewer on the show. To have a role in the creation of each Inside The Tribe episode, you have to take Intro to Communications. In this class, you create and give a variety of speeches to prepare you for being on the show. What people do not realize is that, every episode, members of the class receive roles of doing announcements, reading the Raider Report, creating segments, editing videos, and controlling the cameras.

East Peoria truly does try to recognize all of our clubs and school related activities. If you want to nominate a specific group, you can go talk to Ms. Pfeifer or Ms. Bone to nominate one of your choice! We would love to hear from our student body and staff about who they appreciate as a part of our school.

EP Volleyball

The Ep volleyball team took a win in a close match against Prairie Central. Some highlights from the game are; Emma Stenger with 8 aces, Gabby Lane with 3 aces, Kallie Randle with 4 kills, Neveah Lewis and Lizzie Stenger with 5 kills each, Kaylee Campbell with 9 digs, and Maris Barclay setting. The game was three sets with the final scores being 25-18 Ep, 18-25 PCHS, and 25-18 EP. Good job girls!

Raiderettes Get A New Coach:

As the Raiderettes start their season, we interviewed first year coach, Hannah Zachman, on her experience throughout the season so far. Ms. Zachman has loved dancing since she was three and when the position as the Raiderettes coach opened up she felt that it was the perfect opportunity to take her skills to the next level. Not only is this her first year coaching it is also her first year being a teacher, Ms. Zachman stated that

Interview with Hannah Zachman

“The girls have been a great help showing me the ropes but also letting me take it into my own hands. It can get overwhelming at times, but I love it.” So far this season the Raiderettes have taken second place at UDA camp for their home routine and won the Team Leadership Award, an award voted on by other teams who choose what team they would want to be on if they couldn’t be on their own.

Cheerleader's Homecoming Performance

As the cheerleaders approached Homecoming Week, they choreographed an amazing performance for the football game, Friday night. They worked hours on end for weeks before their homecoming week to make sure to have an entertaining performance for their community. The adrenaline rush when they walk out onto the field is like no other. Everyone staring down on them anticipating what is to come, and amazed at the performance. All of the cheerleader's hard work from the past few weeks paid off.

Color Guard

What is color guard you might ask? Well, color guard is a team of performers who showcase their choreographed dances and routines. All while throwing in a flag. They perform with the band all throughout the band season and at every home football game during halftime. Talking with the seniors on the team was pretty amazing! “It is easy to see how hard these girls work. It is one of the best things about this school. It brings everyone together, and lots of friends are made!” stated Jasmine Smith, a senior on the team for four years. If you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior tryouts are usually in May, and practices are held throughout the entire summer. Talk to coach Jessi Rogers if you are interested in joining! You can also visit the band website for more information!

Maroon and Gold Football Scrimmage

The East Peoria Raiders Football team gave the fans some entertainment during the maroon and gold scrimmage. The scrimmage was held on August 19th after all the fall athletes were announced. They showcased their talents with an offense v.s defense intersquad matchup. This preseason scrimmage showed the fans how hard the players have been working in the offseason and it was a preview of the season that is to come. The East Peoria Raiders open their season at home next week facing off against Streator.

Varsity Football

The East Peoria varsity football team took their first conference win since 2018! On September 9, the football team beat Limestone 33-20 at their second home game of the season. They went into the game with a 1-1 record and now hold a 2-1 record and a 2-game winning streak! I interviewed Bella Buhs, a football cheerleader, to get an inside perspective on the energy at the game. “The crowd was hyped! You could definitely see a difference from previous years. People were screaming and jumping to the point where the bleachers were shaking. So far it’s been a great start to the season!” The team will now face Canton in an away game this Friday. Congratulations to the Raiders Football team on the win and for their hard work!

East Peoria Girls Golf Zeb Gardner Scramble

The girls golf team played in the Zeb Gardner Memorial Scramble at Newman Golf Course in Peoria. The match is in memory of Zeb Gardner, who recently passed away, and his wish was to get more young women and minorities involved with golf. This is a scramble with 1 coach and 3 golfers. The girls that were included were sophomore Erin Ingolia, and seniors Olivia Strawn and Gracie Luna, along with their Coach Brad Bouris. The girls and Coach Bouris shot 8 under par with a 64. They got 1st place out of 10 teams!

Spanish Club

¡Hola! What is Spanish Club you might ask? Well, Spanish Club is a group of students who meets once a month in 261C and is led by Mrs. Horn. Anyone can join, all you have to do is pay a small fee of $2 and be ready to learn. The Spanish Club partakes in not only learning the Spanish language but the culture as well. Some activities include enjoying hot chocolate and churros, and playing hands-on games. According to Mrs. Horn, you should join Spanish Club because, “It's a good experience for students to get hands-on experience they might not get in class while being surrounded by people who have similar interests.” Spanish Club brings everyone together whether you are a beginner or advanced in Spanish, all class levels are welcome. If you're interested, watch for the announcement of start dates. We hope to see you there!

Auto Club

The first Auto club meet had a great turnout this year. Auto club is an awesome place to come and learn about working on and dealing with cars. Auto club consists of helping staff and students with automotive issues, as well as doing performance work and they are even planning on building a turbocharged golf cart this year. Fellow student, Trenton Kinder says, “Auto club is a great place to learn about cars and hang out with friends.” Auto club meets every other Wednesday in the auto shop and to close out with the famous words of Mr. Baxter, “English is important but race cars are importanter.”
