TALENTED DEBATER AND LEADER
Year entered Emanuel: 2010 ATAR: 92.65
Emanuel is a place to learn but more importantly to grow into the kind of person you would like to become.
When there is an argument to be had and a debate to be won, Max would be there, notes ready and questions posed. Max has been debating at an advanced level for over five years and is described by his debating mentor as: “the mainstay of the team”. Max has extensive general knowledge and can be relied on to develop ideas into in-depth concepts that often won him debates. He is a voracious reader and has a fascination for learning.
In 2015 Max was awarded the prestigious Debater of the Year at the HICES (Heads of Independent Co-educational Schools) Representative Debating competition. He has also been successful farther afield, twice making his way to the finals of the Evatt Trophy, a Model United Nations Security Council diplomacy competition.
Max has particular interest in politics and completed his Year 10 work experience as an intern to Councillor Clover Moore. He subsequently assisted with Clr Moore’s political campaign, advocating for her as Mayor.
A teacher described him: “Max is an extraordinary human being who is destined for a future in politics or diplomacy. Whatever his ultimate vocation, his contribution is sure to make the world a better place.”
Max thoroughly enjoys History and is a talented linguist, studying Japanese as part of his HSC through Open High School. Max commented that Emanuel School has provided him with the means to communicate with a variety of people, along with an appetite for learning. He sees these as being the foundations of his professional life.
Max shared that Emanuel School is a place of family, safety, and individuality. “It offers all of these aspects in excess, and in that sense provides a strong place to explore one’s intellectual interests, personality, and to share good times with friendly people. The School offers a place to swap ideas on a respectful basis and nurture young talent into developed ability, all helped along by a committed teaching body.”
