Decide on how your camp will be structured. Come up with a skeleton schedule that you can later fill in with activities. For reference, look at our example schedule. Build in time for lunch and recess. Little kids have lots of energy!
Our first year, we ran a one day camp three days in a row. A different group of kids came each day but we did the same activities. This was a good first year to get used to how a camp would work.
For our camp now, we divide the kids into two groups. While one group works with LEGO Mindstorms robots, the other group does other STEM related activities. Every hour or so, the groups switch off. There are many different ways to structure a camp. Come up with the structure that works best for your team!
Plan out what activities you will be doing ahead of time. Get together with your team and brainstorm ideas about possible activities. Looking on sites with science fair project ideas can help a lot. Here are some activities that we have done in the past:
Goop activity! Super fun!
Once you have an idea of which activities you will be doing, assign each team member one activity to research. Have them create a document listing the materials needed for their activity, the instructions for the activity, and what the campers will learn. You will later print out these documents to have on hand at the camp.
