We recommend holding your camp in the summer time. Students on your team and children that attend will have more time during the summer. Plus, if your team is in a place that gets cold winters like ours (we are from Wisconsin), the summer will give your campers an opportunity to get some fresh air. Try to find a time that does not coincide with too many other events. Here’s some things to consider:
- Avoid August: At many high schools, fall sports start in August, and many of your team members may be busy with practice.
- Avoid weekends and Fridays: Many families take little weekend trips in the summer, so it may be hard for campers to come.
- Avoid summer school: If your district has summer school program, do not schedule the camp at the same time.
- Avoid other major summer camp’s dates: Girl scout camp, Boy scouts, Vacation Bible School, and other summer activities may interfere with your camp, so avoid these dates as well.
- Avoid Holidays: Do not schedule your camp any time near holidays, when many families have other plans. For example, these could include Memorial Day and Fourth of July. Also, if your community has a local festival or parade, avoid those dates.
