Why EGYM Works

EGYM was developed using state-of-the-art exercise science. Different fitness goals require different workouts—a weightlifter works out differently than someone who has never strength trained.

In order to make sure that you start at a comfortable level, never overtrain, and always keep improving, EGYM adapts the following equipment settings based on your goal, progress and body type:

  • Weight: If you want to gain muscle, EGYM will set a higher training weight whereas a lower weight is sufficient for weight loss.
  • Number of Reps: Varying the reps promote muscular strength, hypertrophy, or muscular endurance
  • Training Duration: EGYM alternates long, less intensive sessions with short, high intensity ones to ensure that you'll continue to grow.
  • Training Tempo: A fast, explosive movement has a different effect than a long slow movement.

Marketing Tips

Maximize Aha Moments

  • Showing an RFID wristband tapping a machine is an important moment for members. Without that, they often confuse EGYM for an app rather than connected equipment.
  • The moment when someone sees the machine adjust its height and resistance level for two people of different size is another “aha moment.”
  • There is no better way to sell EGYM than to get someone to try it once. They get much more excited than watching someone else do it because they see for themselves that the difficulty level is manageable for them.
  • When a person sees their muscle imbalance in the EGYM app, they understand that EGYM gives them insights that they might not be able to get on their own.
  • Showing members that both professional athletes and 80 year olds new to strength training use EGYM is a good way to illustrate its accessibility and flexibility.

Use Human Phrases

  • Human words and phrases do a better job getting the message across than marketing terms.
  • People think of EGYM as “personalized” more than they think of it as “internet connected” or “smart.”
  • Once staff have tried it, they sometimes explain it to prospects as giving you a “hard” or “good” workout.
  • This can be intimidating to people who don’t think they can weight train. It’s much better to say that it’s personalized and that anyone can do it.
    • “Machines that adjust to your body” > “Smart machines”
    • “Like a video game” > “gamified interface”
    • “Beat your high score” > “Unlock additional levels”
    • “It sets everything for you, all you need to do is work out” > “smart machines”

Build Buzz Through Community

  • Excited staff are the most effective marketing channel to existing customers. Making sure they understand how EGYM works and what’s cool about it will build buzz.
  • EGYM's circuit format tends to naturally build community. Capitalize on this by creating a Facebook group specifically for EGYM members to post their successes.
  • Biological Age is a popular feature because after a fairly short amount of time using EGYM, the member’s biological age will likely be less than their actual age. They often share this result on social media, thus introducing their friends to EGYM.
