Last week, on Thursday 3rd March, we celebrated World Book Day. There were a wonderful array of costumes on display (many thanks to the adults at home for their efforts with these!) and we shared lots of our most favourite books. Lots of our activities over the week were based on books and we even wrote and illustrated our own little stories to share with the children in Reception.
Year 5 and 6 were fortunate enough to be part of Essex Zingt! 2022, a Yiddish song project teaching children about Jewish language, culture and identity through song.
We were invited to a workshop session led by composer & teacher Joseph Finlay accompanied by accordionist Josh Middleton and clarinetist Daniel Gouly. We really enjoyed the performances, this was a wonderful opportunity to embrace music from other cultures and we learnt lots.
We began book week by looking at a range of picture books for younger readers. It was lovely to share the stories and look at the range of wonderful illustrations. We are going to use these books to inspire our own picture books which we will share with the children in Reception next week.
On Wednesday morning year 5 took part in road safety training. We learnt all about the green cross code, stopping distances and how to be safe in different scenarios. We then took our new learning outside and put it to the test during a road safety walk in the streets around our school. Stay safe everyone and remember to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN!
