On the last day of term, the children were taked with creating the mosast effective boats for carrying heavy loads, out of tin-foil! After much discussion and careful building, we tested them out to find a winner.
In science this term, Year 5 have been looking at forces. They used this knowledge to try and create the most effective parachute. Working in groups, the children tried to design and make parachutes which created the most air resistance. They came to the conclusion that the bigger the parachute, the more effective it was! (No children were harmed in the resting of the parachutes, only a few mu;ti-link cubes!)
Macbeth!
On Wednesday afternoon year 5 ( and 6) were lucky enough to have a visit from the Young Shakespeare Company performing 'Macbeth'. Children were invited to join in at various points during the play and act along with the cast members. Feedback from the children included, 'It was great!', 'I really enjoyed it' and 'It was loud!'.
The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips
This term, as part of our WW2 Theme, we have begun reading 'The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips' by Michael Morpurgo. This is a heart-warming tale of courage and warmth, set against the backdrop of the second world war, about an abandoned village, a lifelong friendship and one very adventurous cat!
We will be using the story to inspire lots of fantastic writing!
