Welcome to year 4!
After such a long time, we were delighted to welcome the children back to school and have had a fantastic couple of days settling back into school life, and beginning our year 4 school year. Hope the children enjoyed their first couple of days back and seeing their friends after so long!
After such a long break, everyone seems to be settling well into the school routine. Thanks to the lovely weather, we have been fortunate enough to be able to practise our Hockey skills outside. Take a look at how well we have done...
On Tuesday 13th October, we had a fabulous time investigating States of Matter with the fabulous Quasar Chris from Mad Science. We learned all about Solids, Liquids and Gases and watched as Dry Ice (CO2) turned from a solid to a gas (sublimation) right before our eyes! It was like sitting in a cloud! We also had great fun making a Polymer (slime to you and me!) We mixed PVA glue with borax and paint et voila! Thanks Mad Science.
During our Mad Science Day, we also talked about mixtures and chemical reactions. In a mixture, it is easy to get the original ingredients back but if a chemical reaction takes place (like in dough or slime) a completely new substance is created. We used our salt dough to create a volcano. When it dries, the dough will look like igneous rock (cooled lava). We will then paint them and watch them erupt! (More photos to follow...)
At Edward Francis, we are keen to take care of our wellbeing. We had time to relax and stretch during this super yoga workshop...aaaaaand relax!
We had great fun today, making our volcanoes erupt. we mixed baking powder with washing up liquid, a little water and a little red paint. The we added the secret ingredient...vinegar and the resulting chemical reaction made our volcanoes come to life! Boom!
