Writing: During Term 3, students will be using connective to add detail and description to their writing. Lessons will focus on the procedural writing genre. This writing genre is used when writing recipes, instructions and 'how to' texts. They will be looking closely at the key features within a procedural, as well as the importance of using action verbs and clear language.
Students will be completing a SMART spelling lesson each week, focusing on a specific digraph or trigraph.
There will also be a large emphasis on using VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers, punctuation) within students writing. VCOP allows the writer to up-level their sentences, adding detail, interest and variety. This process will assist students to become more confident within their own writing practice.
In Writing this week, students will be developing their procedural writing skills, creating a written text for for 'How to show respect online'. This ties in with the cyber safety lessons we have been doing in reading. Students will also be connecting with members o f the Whitehorse community through the initiative 'Connecting Generations', they will be writing a letter to an elderly member of the community with the aim of brightening their day. The digraph we are focusing on in spelling is 'cc'
Reading: Throughout Term 3, students will be reading and viewing a variety of texts with a focus on sustainability, which links to our Inquiry unit. They will engage in a variety of activities focused around making real world connections with what they read, as well as participate in whole class and small group conversations. Students will also be undertaking Readers Theater activities in small groups.
Students will be completing one lesson a week on School Wide Positive Behavious. This will be focused on discussing the ways in which students can help contribute to a positive learning experience during remote learning; particularly during Google Meets
In Reading this week, students will be completing the second modal of their digital licence- Protecting Privacy. They will also be exploring the messages and themes of sustainability in the book The Lorax. Students will complete the first of their reading assessment- CARS.
Numeracy: This term in Numeracy, students will continue to revise their understanding of number and place value while also looking at location, transformation, data and statistics. Across the term, students will be given opportunities to practice problem solving strategies, as well as pursue personal learning goals through the platform “My Numeracy” in Essential Assessment. “My Numeracy” is a personalised sequence of learning activities generated when students complete assessments through Essential Assessment.
In Numeracy this week, students will be revising their knowledge of addition and subtraction. Through the use of online games, open ended tasks and video tutorials, students will solve multi digit and worded problems.
Inquiry: Our inquiry unit, Sustainability, will be integrated in reading, writing and numeracy lessons throughout the term.
