Writing: The Preps are learning to say a sentence they are planning to write and then independently record sounds they can hear. They think about including punctuation in their sentences and leaving a space between words. There will be a focus on correctly forming letters and writing them using a consistent size. We are learning about writing for different purposes and using writing every day.
We have been learning about the purpose of different pieces of punctuation and consistently including these in our writing. We will continue to think about Vinny Vocabulary and including description and WOW words in our writing!
Our writing this week will be all about our return to school! We will use our class photo as a picture prompt for inspiration and we will write a procedure about something we do at school.
As a guide, it is recommended that your child spends 30 minutes on writing each day (this includes any discussion or drawing elements of a writing activity).
Reading: We are learning to instantly recognise high frequency words to help improve our reading fluency. The Preps are working on independently reading using all of the reading strategies they know. These are Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey, Tryin' Lion, Skippy Frog and Flippy Dolphin.
All Preps are at different stages with their reading and knowledge of letters and sounds. If your child cannot recognise the letter or sound of the following letters, learning these are the priority:
s, a, t, p, i, n, c, k, e, h, r, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, ch, sh, th, qu, v, w, x, y, z, oo, ing
The reading tasks this week will be about our return to school and some revision of the letters and sounds we learnt last term.
The Preps have access to an online library where they can choose to listen to chapter books or picture story books. After listening to a story, we retell the main parts, such as what happened first, next and last. We discuss the characters in the book and their interactions. Talking about the story is very important to help build comprehension and understanding.
As a guide, it is recommended that your child spends 30 minutes completing the reading activities each day.
Numeracy: During our maths sessions this week, we will be revisiting some of the number knowledge we learnt last term and we will build on the number facts we know, including doubles and near doubles!
As a guide, it is recommended that your child spends 30 minutes completing maths each day.
Inquiry: Our inquiry topic for Term 4 is all about our family history so we will begin by looking at some photos that our parents have at home from when they were young. We will also create a family tree!
On the days Inquiry is scheduled, we recommended spending up to 30 minutes on the tasks.
