Writing: Writing this week focuses on Dads and Grandads and what makes them special. Students will complete a character description and a newspaper report.
Reading: Students should continue to focus one Establishing good reading habits. We recommend students read for at least 20 minutes per day. Reading out loud to a parent, carer, or older family member is preferred.
Student learning this week focuses on text to text connections. Sometimes when reading, readers are reminded of other things that they have read, other books by the same author, stories from a similar genre, or perhaps on the same topic. These types of connections are text-to-text connections. Readers gain insight during reading by thinking about how the information they are reading connects to other familiar text. “This character has the same problem that I read about in a story last year,” would be an example of a text-to-text connection.
Maths: This week in Maths, we will focus on fractions, in particular Recognise and interpret common uses of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections
recognising that sets of objects can be partitioned in different ways to demonstrate fractions
relating the number of parts to the size of a fraction.
Inquiry:This term students will begin investigating sustainability and ‘The 5 Rs’ - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose, Refuse
Explore the meaning of right and wrong, good and bad, and the impact of our actions.
Identify and describe the changes to objects, materials, resources and living things in our environment.
Exploring their own families waste habits and looking at where improvements could be made.
Moving forwards all inquiry will be embedded within reading, writing and maths activities.
