Writing: Writing this week will continue to focus on writing scientific procedures. This will form part of students end of term assessed topic talk.
Students will:
Ask a Question. The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something that you observe: How, What, When, Who, Which, Why, or Where? ...
Do Background Research. ...
Construct a Hypothesis. ...
Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment. ...
Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion. ...
Communicate Your Results.
Reading: Students should continue to focus on establishing good reading habits. We recommend students read for at least 20 minutes per day. Reading out loud to a parent, carer, or older family member is preferred.
This week we will focus on making connections to the text. There are 3 types of connections we encourage students to make to help with their comprehension and understanding of what they have read.
Text to self: The connections readers make to their own knowledge and experiences.
2.Text to text: The connections readers make to another story or book (even a movie or song!
3.Text to world: The connections readers make to the community and world around them.
Numeracy: Fractions fun! Our maths focus for the week will be introducing fractions as an equal part of a whole. Students will continue to link their division knowledge into partitioning equal halves, thirds, quarters and fifths. We will also be introducing the concepts of numerators and denominators.
This week we will add in the idea of equivalent fractions, what does it mean for two fractions to be equivalent?
Our Science unit introduces the structure of science experiments and hypotheses. Scientific methods highlight the importance of asking questions and recording facts and results. Students will need to ask for parental/ carer permission before conducting simple experiments at home to test their hypotheses.
