You will learn the difference between conscious and unconscious responses.
You will be able to:
Explain the difference between conscious and unconscious responses
Outline the sequence of events in a reflex response
Try to explain spinal reflex using what you've learnt learnt in Unit 1.
Once you finish the lesson, go back to this task and see what you can add in your chart.

SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT
I can:
Define conscious and unconscious responses.
Outline the process of spinal reflex arc.
CONFIDENT
I can:
Explain conscious and unconscious responses using real examples.
Explain the process of spinal reflex arc using real examples
VERY CONFIDENT
I can:
Explain conscious and unconscious responses with examples and the corresponding subdivision of the NS.
Explain the process of spinal reflex (monosynaptic & polysynaptic) arc using real examples
Apply understanding in answering exam styled questions.

The Spinal Reflex
An unconscious, involuntary and automatically occurring response to certain stimuli without any involvement of the brain. It is often referred to as a reflex arc because the response to an incoming stimulus is automatically 'reflected back' from the spinal cord without any initial input from the brain and before the brain processes a conscious perception of the stimulus.
The immediate response at the spinal cord enables a faster reaction time. Consequently, this type of spinal reflex is believed to be an adaptive response.
