History Term 1 Week 9 THE PAST IN THE PRESENT

This topic provides a study of local history. Students explore, recognise and appreciate the history of their local area by examining remains of the past and considering why they should be preserved.

Investigate buildings and natural environments in the local area that are of significant importance.

Norah Head Lighthouse

Investigate the changes and continuities of the local community (family life) by the water of Norah Head and Toukley Lake. Use Norah Head Lighthouse as a local place of significance to frame the learning and the process of inquiry.

Week 9

  • How has family life changed or remained the same over time? Talk to parents or grandparents.

  • Research how people communicated throughout history. How has technology changed the way we communicate with each other?

  • How have people in the local community lived differently in the past?

  • Research an important landmark in the local area or state. Why is it important and how do we care for it?
