Audience: Students of classes IV to VIII totaling 683 students.
On March 23rd and 25th March, 2024, a health talk was organized by the Health Committee in collaboration with DAISAN and the WELL BEING committee. The collaborative health talk at the Samtse Higher Secondary School Multipurpose Hall (MPH), facilitated through the MS PowerPoint platform, proved to be a highly informative and engaging experience for students. The integration of pictures and videos enhanced understanding and retention of key concepts, fostering a culture of holistic well-being within the school community.
The objective of the session was to provide vital information and promote healthy practices among students, regarding various aspects of physical and mental well-being.
The health talk comprised presentations by esteemed speakers on the following topics:
1. Substance Abuse by Mr.Sonam Gyeltshen (School Counselor):
The school counselor, commenced the session by addressing the issue of substance abuse. He provided insights into the detrimental effects of substance dependency on individuals' health and overall well-being. He emphasized the significance of seeking support and guidance to overcome addiction.
2. Good Touch And Bad Touch by Mrs. Suman Dorji:
She sensitively discussed the importance of distinguishing between good touch and bad touch and engaged the students in interactive discussions and illustrated scenarios to help them understand appropriate responses to different types of physical contact, promoting a safe and respectful environment.
3. Comprehensive Sex Education by Ms.Tshewang Pelden Drukpa:
She delivered an informative session on comprehensive sex education covering various topics related to reproductive health, consent, and responsible sexual behavior. The presentation aimed to equip students with essential knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health.
4. Balanced Diet by Mrs.Phul Maya:
She discussed the significance of maintaining a balanced diet for overall health and well-being providing practical tips on incorporating essential nutrients from various food groups into daily meals, encouraging students to make healthy dietary choices to support their growth and development.
5. Junk Food by Mrs. Lobzang Choden:
She shed light on the adverse effects of consuming junk food regularly. And discussed the high levels of unhealthy fats, sugars, and additives present in junk food, which contribute to various health issues. Her presentation aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of limiting junk food intake and opting for healthier alternatives.
6. Menstrual Hygiene by Mrs. Goma Chhetri:
She addressed the topic of menstrual hygiene, focusing on promoting healthy practices among young girls emphasizing the importance of proper menstrual hygiene management and debunked myths surrounding menstruation. Her presentation aimed to empower girls with the knowledge to manage their menstrual health with confidence.

Objective: The primary objective of the Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) vaccination campaign conducted on 16th March 2024 was to administer the Td vaccine to students of Class PP and Class 7, aiming to provide them with immunity against tetanus and diphtheria.
Participants: The vaccination campaign was conducted by two health officials from Samtse General Hospital. The recipients of the vaccination were students from Class PP and Class 7, totaling 251 individuals.
Process: The vaccination campaign commenced at 9:00 am and concluded at 1:00 pm. The process involved the following steps:
1. Registration: Prior to vaccination, students were registered to document their participation and ensure accurate record-keeping.
2. Pre-Vaccination Counseling: Health officials provided information to students about the importance of the Td vaccination, its benefits, and any potential side effects.
3. Administration of Vaccine: The Td vaccine was administered to each student by trained health officials. Proper medical protocols and safety measures were adhered to throughout the process to ensure the well-being of the recipients.
4. Post-Vaccination Observation: After receiving the vaccine, students were observed for a brief period to monitor for any immediate adverse reactions. Health officials were prepared to provide prompt medical attention if required.
5. Documentation: Comprehensive records were maintained, documenting the details of the vaccination campaign, including the names of participants, dosage administered, and any adverse reactions observed.
Outcome: The Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccination campaign was successfully conducted, with all targeted students from Class PP and Class 7 receiving the Td vaccine. No significant adverse reactions were reported during the post-vaccination observation period. The campaign contributed to enhancing the immunity of the students against tetanus and diphtheria, thereby reducing the risk of these preventable diseases.

On the 6th of March 2024, a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was conducted for class 6 students by the health staff from Samtse General Hospital. The campaign aimed to provide preventive healthcare measures against HPV infections among the students.
The primary objective of the vaccination campaign was to protect the students against HPV infections, which can lead to various health complications including cervical cancer, genital warts, and other related diseases.
The vaccination campaign was meticulously organized and executed by the health staff from Samtse General Hospital. Prior to the vaccination day, consent forms were sent out to the parents or guardians of the class 6 students, informing them about the importance and benefits of the HPV vaccination.
On the day of the campaign, the health staff set up vaccination booths within the school premises. Each student was guided through the process by the school staff and the healthcare professionals. Proper hygiene protocols were followed, ensuring the safety of the students during the vaccination process. Additionally, students were briefed about the significance of the HPV vaccine and were encouraged to ask any questions they had.
Results: A significant number of class 6 students participated in the vaccination campaign, reflecting a positive response from both the students and their parents or guardians. The successful completion of the vaccination process ensures that these students are now protected against the risks associated with HPV infections.
The HPV vaccination campaign conducted for class 6 students on the 5th of March 2024, by the health staff from Samtse General Hospital, was a commendable initiative towards promoting preventive healthcare among the younger population. Such campaigns play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of individuals, and it is imperative to continue raising awareness and implementing vaccination programs to combat HPV infections effectively.
