In the Samtse municipality area, waste management is a major issue, resulting in adverse effects on the environment and public health due to the absence of a structured waste management system. To tackle this issue, Samtse Lower Secondary School undertakes an exciting innovation tournament that aims to revolutionize waste management through the utilization of the epicollect5 mobile application with funding support from the Ministry.
The students are actively involved in developing this app, which serves as a powerful tool for tracking and documenting waste. By collecting data on waste sightings, the app enables us to identify areas that require immediate attention. To visually represent this data, we employ the advanced QGIS mapping software, creating informative visualizations that highlight priority areas. In addition to the waste tracking app, the tournament incorporates the creation of documentary videos addressing waste management challenges. These videos provide an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and understanding of the issue. The best video will be broadcasted through local cable TV channels and shared on various social media platforms, amplifying the message to a wider audience.
This innovation tournament holds tremendous benefits for our school. Firstly, it provides students with the chance to acquire and apply valuable technological skills within a real-world context. By engaging in this project, they cultivate a spirit of cooperation and mutual learning, fostering a collaborative environment. Furthermore, it promotes civic engagement and social responsibility among the students, as they actively work towards solving a pressing community issue. The tournament aligns seamlessly with our school's vision of education for life, where excellence is pursued, and individual strengths and talents are recognized and celebrated. By actively participating in this initiative, our students not only gain valuable skills but also contribute meaningfully to the betterment of our environment and society as a whole.

Training: The selected teams will undergo comprehensive training on waste management issues, video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, QGIS mapping software, voice-overs, and the development of the Epicollect5 mobile application. This training will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their project.
Implementation: The teams will actively utilize the Epicollect5 mobile app to track waste occurrences in the Samtse Municipality area. Additionally, they will utilize the recording studio at Samtse College of Education to create documentary videos on waste management. This hands-on approach will allow the teams to put their training into practice and generate meaningful content.
Documentation: Each team will maintain a dedicated blog using Blogger.com to document their project journey. This will serve as a platform for them to showcase their progress, share insights, and provide updates on their experiences throughout the tournament.
Evaluation: The teams and individual members will undergo evaluation based on various criteria, including the quality and impact of their blog entries, the number of entries recorded on the Epicollect5 app, the excellence of their documentary video, and the overall impact of their project. These evaluations will contribute to determining the winners.
Recognition and Dissemination: The documentary video created by the winning team will be broadcasted on local cable TV and shared on social media platforms. Only the participating teams' videos will be posted on social media.
