Realising The Ambition: Being Me
Realising the Ambition is our national guidance, used to support settings in Scotland in delivering high quality Early Learning & Childcare. It provides a vision for achieving excellence in practice and outlines the key principles needed to support young children's holistic well-being and development.
In practice, this supports the team at Law to create rich, stimulating environments which promote independence, creativity and curiosity. It promotes relationship-based practice, where children are at the centre.
Health & Social Care Standards
In Scotland, we have this framework to ensure that people who receive care and support, have their rights respected and are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.
How Good Is Our Early Learning & Childcare? (HGIOELC)
This is a self-evaluative tool designed to support early years settings in Scotland to reflect on and improve the quality of their setting. The framework encourages practitioners to assess and evaluate their practice across key areas such as learning, teaching & assessment, leadership, and outcomes for children.
When inspected by HMiE, they use this document to assess how well the setting meets the national standards for quality and outcomes for children.
Care Inspectorate: A Quality Framework for day care of children, childminding and school aged children.
Similar to HGIOELC, this tool is used to assess quality and provides a framework to ensure settings are meeting national standards and providing a high quality provision for children and families. It supports settings to reflect on their practices, identifying strengths, areas of improvement and ensures we meet regulatory standards.
Care Inspectorate use this when carrying out their inspections to inform their evaluations and grades.
Sun Protection Guidance
This provides key recommendations and practices to ensure the health and safety of children when they are exposed to the sun, especially whilst outdoor.

Care Inspectorate: Setting the Table

It provides us with information about age-appropriate portion sizes, supporting allergies and special dietary requirements, safe food practices, as well as the food we are allowed to provide and not allowed to provide.
Law Nursery Food and Nutrition Guidance
Our food and nutrition practices are based on the Setting the Table guidance.
We are responsible for applying the National Guidance on Nutritional Standards within our setting.
The Care Inspectorate requires us to adhere to these standards. For full details, please refer to the Setting the Table document linked above.
Care Inspectorate: Prevention and Management of choking episodes in babies and children
These guidelines aims to reduce the risk and ensure that staff who are providing food, are preparing it safely for children, and are trained to act quickly in the event of an emergency.
Care Inspectorate: Gender Equal Play
