If your child has been prescribed any medication, has dietary requirements or has allergies or health conditions, please mention this at the induction meeting. We can discuss this with you and issue the appropriate forms.
At nursery, we have very strict policies and protocols that we must follow from East Lothian Council and Care Inspectorate. There has been a new updated policy from Care Inspectorate so we have reviewed our protocols to ensure they are aligned.
We have summarised the policy to highlight key points:
Medication must not be left in children's bags
If your child requires medication at nursery, this must be passed onto a member of staff at drop off time
Must be prescribed
Must come in original packaging with the pharmacy label with the child's name and dosage information
Medication must of been administered at least once at home before being administered at nursery in case of potential reaction
Medication form has been filled out by parent/carer and then signed each time administered
Medication such as antihistamines can only be administered if prescribed
We must follow instructions stated on the medication i.e. discard after 5 days of being opened
Medication such as paracetamol cannot be administered to children at nursery unless it is exceptional circumstances stated in the guidance such as pain relief for a broken bone. If your child is unwell, we are not allowed to prescribe paracetamol or ibuprofen, we would ask you to consider if your child is well enough to be at nursery.
We follow the NHS Communicable Disease Document (updated August 2023).
All children who have long term medication in nursery are required to have a Care Plan in place which will be created in collaboration with the family and key worker or another member of staff. Medication Care Plans are reviewed every 3 months in line with Care Inspectorate Medication Guidance.
ALLERGIES
A reminder that we are a NUT FREE SCHOOL, so any products containing any traces of nuts must not come into the nursery building. We have a severe pineapple allergy within the setting, so we kindly ask that you do not provide any pineapple products.
