Students will receive a daily grade that will evaluate their participation, work ethic, and classroom behavior. Each student starts off with a daily grade of 100 points. Students will lose points from their daily grade if they commit an infraction. The daily points are tallied at the end of the week and averaged together.
Just like in soccer, an infraction will earn the student a yellow card. There are yellow cards for individual infractions. Committing the same infraction twice in the same class period will earn the student a red card. The yellow (warning) cards contain a discipline report that students have to fill out to correct their unwanted behavior. A student who fills out and turns in their yellow warning card will lose 20 points from their daily grade. A student who fails to fill out the warning card will lose 40 points from the daily grade.
A student who shows up late to class will receive a yellow card. The student must fill out the information on the yellow card and return the card to the teacher at the end of the class period. If the student fails to return the yellow card to the teacher, he/she will lose 40 points from his/her daily grade. If a student fills out the yellow card, he/she will only lose 20 points from the daily grade.
A student who continues to show up late to class (2 yellow cards in the same week) will earn the student a parent call and a late notice on the student's grade report.
If a student shows up late 3 or more times to class in the same week, the student will earn the student a referal.
The easiest way to avoid a tardy is to make it to class on time. If this is difficult because the student's previous class is too far away in the new building, the student can remedy this in a few ways:
Find a route to class with less traffic
Be aware of the time
Reduce the amount of chitchat in the hallway
Get a minute pass from the previous teacher. This gives the student 1 extra minute to arrive in class.
If the student needs to go to the bathroom during the passing period and does not want to be marked tardy, simply notify your teacher that you need to go to the bathroom.
This is what is written in the yellow cards that must be returned by the end of the class period.
Student Name: ___________________________________________ Grade Level:_____________________ ID#___________________
Date:_________________________________________ Class Period:_________________ Time: _________________________________
Reason student was late to class: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
How can I, the student, correct this behavior? What steps will I take to not be late to class again? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Note: If a student is tardy to class twice within the same week, the student's parents will be notified. The student loses points from his daily grade for being tardy. Fill out this form and the student will only lose 20 points from the daily grade. Failure to return this yellow card by the end of the class period and the student will lose 40 points from the daily grade. Please read and sign the statement below:
"I __________________________________________________ (signature) will try my hardest to not be late to class again. I understand that I am expected to come to class on time and develop a good work ethic. I will correct this unwanted behavior and strive for excellence.
All cell phones must be kept in student's pockets or backpacks. Cell phones must not be visible in class. During class time, students are expected to learn, work and cooperate with other students. A student who is using their cell phones in class will earn a yellow card infraction. A student who receives a yellow card must fill out the card and return it to the teacher by the end of the class period. If a student fails to return the card, he/she will lose 40 points from the daily grade. If the student does return the yellow card, he/she will only lose 20 points. If a student earns 2 yellow card cell phone infractions within the same class period, he/she will ear a red card. A student earning a red card will lose 100 points from the daily grade. In addition, the student's parents will be notified of the problematic and unwanted behavior.
These are the types of actions which might earn a student a yellow card
Texting while in class.
Being on social media while in class
Browsing on the phone while in class
Taking selfies while in class
Shining the flashlight in someone's face in class
Watching videos while in class
Playing loud music in class
Leave your cell phone out of sight. If your cell phone is nearby, it will be tempting to use it.
Turn off your phone
Let you parents and friends know that it is not okay to text or call you during class time
Learn to experience life and all its joy. Your cell phone is making you dumb and dependent on it. Break the addiction.
Socialize with the people around you. Share your thoughts and ideas with your peers in the classroom.
The following actions will result in an automatic red card. The red card will earn the student a loss of 100 points from the daily grade. It will also earn the student a call to his/her parents to explain the unwanted behavior.
A student playing games on his cell phone is a sign that he/she is unwilling to learn or is trying to waste valuable class time. It is disrespectful to the teacher to have a student playing on the phone instead of working. Any student playing games on his phone will receive a red card, and be told to put his phone away. If a student refuses to do what he/she is told, he will be kicked out of the class and receive a referral, call to the parents and possible conference with principal. Any red card actions will be documented in the student's grade report and be made visible in the comment section for the parents and other teachers to see.
A student talking on the phone during class will be told to put his/her phone away and receive a red card. Failure to do so IMMEDIATELY will earn the student a referral and the student will be kicked out of class, the parents will be contacted and a possible conference with the principal will result. This is one of the biggest signs of disrespect to the teacher. Any student on his/her phone in class will lose all daily points for the day and might have to turn in his/her phone to the teacher for the rest of the week or 6 week grading period.
While the teacher is presenting or teaching a lesson, all students must remain silent and pay attention. Rude or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
If a student is talking while the teacher is presenting, he will be given a verbal warning
The second time the teacher has to call on a student, the student will receive a yellow card
If the disruptive behavior continues, the student will be given a red card and will be told to leave the room. He/She will be given a referral and contact with the parents will be made.
The same rules will apply if a student is being disruptive while another student is presenting. Respect will be given to the teacher and to your fellow students.
