SHAPES
- Shape is a closed 2-dimensional object shown by a line or edge
- An enclosed line becomes a shape. Anytime you draw any object on a sheet of paper you are creating shapes.
- Shapes are used to convey meaning and organize information
- 2-dimensional (2D) = has height and width
Types of Shapes:
- Geometric Shapes: Are 2-dimensional shapes that can be created or analyzed using mathematical equations
- Organic Shapes: A 2-dimensional shape that is related to or derived from living matter
- lAbstract shapes: are those that have a recognizable form but are not "real" in the same way that natural shapes are. For example, a stick-figure drawing of a dog is an abstract dog shape, but another dog in a photo is a natural shape. Some examples of abstract shapes are: symbols, glyphs, icons

Positive and Negative Shapes
- A shape will be either positive or negative
positive: we call the figure or foreground shape positive and the focus of the picture, it is often called the subject matter (usually)
Negative: this is usually an empty shape or space and is the background or surround of the subject matter
