This is a classroom and a workshop not a cafeteria. Food and beverages are not allowed in class. The only drink allowed is a sealed water bottle. Students who bring, chips, candy or any other edible substance to class will be forced to throw the food away or be written up
Cell phones will only be used for Google Classroom or doing research in class. Any student using their cell phones for any other purpose such as texting, or being on social media will be given an initial warning. If the student continues to be on his/her phone, the phone will be confiscated and the student will be written up. The phone will be returned at the end of class.
Calling someone from their personal cell phone in class
Playing a video game
Watching a video or television show during class time
Taking selfies or pictures of other students
Using social media posts to bully or harass other students
Students are in school to listen, learn and cooperate with other students. Headphones imply that the student is not listening or is not willing to communicate with others. The teacher will give an initial warning for any student wearing a head phone or earbud. If the student continues to wear head phones or earbuds after the initial warning, the student will be written up.
Using the earbud/headphone to make a phone call in class
No nudity, no gang signs, no foul or offensive language, and no references to drugs, smoking or alcohol use
Any student that violates this rule will receive a failing grade and can get written up. Artworks with inappropriate images will go in the trash
Always bring your sketchbook, and a pencil to class. You will use your sketchbook EVERYDAY so there is no reason to not bring it to class. If a student refuses to bring their sketchbook 3 times in any given week, that student will be written up and the teacher will schedule a conference with parents and principles to see what the problem is. Most of the work in class will be done in the sketchbook so not bringing your sketchbook to class is the equivalent of refusing to work.
A grade is earned when work is completed and turned in on time. There will be a 15 point deduction for every day an assignment is late with a maximum limit of 3 days. After the 3rd day late, the assignment will be graded as a zero.
Be in class on time and ready to work when the bell rings. Work from bell to bell in your assigned seat. Your teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not line up by the door near the end of class, remain seated until instructed to do so. Be responsible for your materials, assignments and work area. Keep your work area clean. Be kind and courteous to others and respect their opinions, beliefs and artwork.
Once the teacher closes the door, any student that comes in afterward is considered late. Students must get a tardy from the nearest tardy station. If a student is tardy 3 times during any given 6 week period, the teacher will schedule a conference with parents and student to ascertain the situation. Additionally, each tardy costs the student 20 points from the daily grade.
If a student is absent for whatever reason, it is the student's responsibility to keep up with missing work. All classwork and activities are posted to the google classroom. Any work not turned in on time will be regarded as a 0 regardless if the student was sick. The only exception being if the student has a written medical excuse that their principal has been made aware of.
Trust is an important component of this class. We will work with many dangerous and expensive materials. If the teacher does not trust you to be mature enough to work with materials such as clay or knives, you will not work with those materials and an alternate assignment will be issued to you.
You are responsible for maintaining your work area clean. That includes your table, chair, school supplies and surrounding space. Follow all rules of handling and cleaning various materials and media.
Leaving class without cleaning up your work area
Damaging school supplies and equipment including sinks, tables, pencils, etc.
All art materials are expensive and there are multiple people who need to use them. Do not waste material. Plan ahead and use what you need.
If you are not working, then I will assume that I am not challenging you enough and you will be given more work to complete or be given more difficult work.
THIS IS AN ART CLASS: You will not work on assignments related to any other class in this classroom.
YOU CAN TALK (Within a reasonable volume) & WORK AT THE SAME TIME. Do not waste your teacher's time or your time.
All images must be fully rendered. You must try your best in order to create an image. Drawing stick figures means that you are not trying. You will be graded based on effort; laziness will not be tolerated.
All artwork must be original. No copyrighted materials (including name brands or logos) are allowed. You are here to develop your imagination, creativity and critical thinking skills.
You don't learn anything by tracing. Tracing=cheating. The teacher does not have to accept traced artworks.
