Objective: What we know about the Coronavirus is that nothing can stop it, BUT, it can be overcome. Think about all the things people are doing right now to combat this virus: washing hands, covering faces with masks, practicing social distancing, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.
You will create a superhero duo to combat the evil of the Coronavirus monster that you created in the previous assignment. Remember that your theme is the current event affecting the world. How will your heroes defeat this foe? Be creative and think outside the box!
PROJECT OPTIONS: Students can try to draw a realistic looking hero and sidekick using the hero templates that the teacher provides or you can draw a hero based on yesterday's "texture monster" drawing style.
This option is for students who are not completely confident in their drawing skills. You can try to draw a superhero and side kick which are both monsters or are in the texture monster drawing style of Paride Bertolin.
Paride Bertolin's texture monsters are made from simple shapes with exagerrated features. They are filled with texture and personality. A student with low drawing abilities could easily do this sort of drawing. One of the most essential components of this style is getting the correct facial expression for your creature. Below are some examples of facial feature students can get ideas from.
Students can choose several poses to draw from the templates below. The templates are for female and male superheroes of various body types. Students can try to draw these poses as best as they can on their papers. These poses come from a create-a-hero activity from the Permian Basin Comic Con from several years ago. (These poses are suggested but not required. You can always do your own pose)
We've already covered how to draw faces in our class several times. Here are some more examples on how to draw people's faces. This time its in the style of comic book characters. Use these templates and alter your heroes/sidekicks as you need to.
Use the template to create your Comic Book Cover:
After you have created your comic book cover, answer the following questions:
Hero Name:
Title of the comic:
Lettering:
Logo:
Heroes depicted:

Background:
Question: How does your hero fight the Coronavirus pandemic that is going on right now? Or how does he/she reflect the state of society today?
Question: What media (materials) did you use and what surface did you draw it one?
Question: What is being depicted in your artwork? Give a full detail description using full sentences
Prompt: Describe your use of the elements of art
Submit your image and answers to the google classroom. You can answer the questions under the "add private comment" section when you upload your work or attach as a word document or answer in a sheet of paper, take a picture and upload along with your drawing. Remember that you don't need your sketchbook, you can do this assignment on any found surface as long as the picture is visible.
